But still, considering Microsoft's free mail program supports OAuth justįine, and it's sometimes needed, Outlook 2016 really needs to add support! I'm not sure that there's any REAL security issue with doing it with a username/password, particularly if you trust the program/OS you're using, which obviously we do with Office. One nice thing about that is even if your password changes, you won't have to re-enter it in the program. The program itself never actually has your password, just token (or whatever) telling the service it's fine to interact with it.

Inexplicably Outlook 2016 STILL doesn't seem to support OAuth, which is kind of blowing my mind.even more so because Microsoft's free "Mail and Calendar" program for Windows 10 supports OAuth just fine! So why the heck doesn't Outlook?īasically with OAuth, when setting up the account, the program will display a window with a web page in it prompting you to log in to your account (Gmail, in this case), and then showing what permissions the program is wanting, and verifying that that's (The supposedly "less secure" option being to have the program log in with your actual username and password.)
